How the requirement works on the two score scales
| Requirement | 0–120 scale | 1–6 scale |
|---|---|---|
| Standard bachelor’s profile | 92, 22 each | 4.5, R4.5/L5.0/W4.5/S4.0 |
| Program-specific profiles | May differ | May differ |
UvA publishes direct requirements on both scoring systems. The 4.5 total and revised section floors are official university values, not estimates.
During the 2026–2028 transition, reports carry both scales, so the 92-point requirement remains usable. The free TOEFL score converter can support practice planning, but UvA’s section profile controls.
How competitive is UvA really?
The 92 or 4.5 requirement establishes English eligibility. It does not predict admission or replace academic entry requirements and program selection criteria.
The CSV total seed is accurate, but its section note of 20 is outdated. The current official bachelor’s page requires 22 in every old-scale section.
Moving from about 4.0 to 4.5 generally takes several weeks of targeted practice. Listening needs special attention because the official revised floor is 5.0, above the overall 4.5 target.
How to prepare for a 92 or 4.5 at UvA
Use Target, Gap, Route. Target means recording 92, 22 in each section, and the revised section profile, then checking whether the intended program uses a separate rule.
Gap means taking a timed diagnostic. A score of 95 with Speaking 21 still misses the standard bachelor’s section floor.
Route most weekly practice to the largest section shortfall. Use complete mocks as checkpoints because all required scores must come from one accepted result.
Start with the free Essentials edition of the Aidoss Academy Target Score Diagnostic Workbook to measure the section gap. Then use the Complete Digital edition or the 90-Day Self-Study Planner to turn that result into a weekly route.
Classify recurring losses as comprehension, timing, response development, or language control. The diagnosis should determine the next exercise instead of adding undirected test volume.
Use two complete checkpoints before submission. The first measures whether targeted work is closing the gap. The second confirms repeatability and leaves time for score delivery.
Before booking, confirm the test format, score age at the deadline, and the exact program page. PPLE, Liberal Arts and Sciences, graduate, and exchange applicants should not assume that the standard bachelor’s profile applies.
Build the testing calendar backward from the application deadline, leaving time to receive the score, confirm the total and section floors, and arrange official delivery before the final submission date.
Track every diagnostic in one record with the test date, total, four section scores, and the main error category. After each weekly cycle, compare the newest result with the target and change the route only when the evidence shows that another section has become the largest gap.
